Question about servicing
With regards to the Navara......that has a service interval of 2 years or 18,000 miles.......
Now me being an old timer , i have been use to yearly services.......just the annual check over etc......
I understand that with new oils etc.....services do not need to be so often and although expensive.......if you consider that it is only once every 2 years then it is not so bad.....
But then on the other hand i was talking to an old timer mechanic today......and he still feels a yearly check over is best....and he gave the example of during a service he notices that there is enough left on the brakes for say a few k it may last til your next annual service......but not 2 years......
I will not be doing a great deal of milage ......and the local chap can do me a full service using all Nissan stuff for about £150 -£180......which is good......but on a nice point he did say that my local Nissan dealer is really good......but the hourly rate is on the very high side.......but hey i'm going off my own thread here....
So come on guys/gals............whats your gut feeling on this 2 year service intervals.......Cheers
Dave.

Re: Question about servicing
Down under in my world. The Nissan dealers say max 10,000km (6250miles) or 6 months for normal use and 5,000km (3125miles) or 3 months for extreme use(driving hard, sandy, lots of offroad, dusty etc).
I service mine every 10,000km which is at the most 3 months running anyway

I agree, i cant believe anyone would want to leave it for that long
Re: Question about servicing
Hi jpmc,
Thats interesting.....do you reckon that is mainly due to more of a dusty / countryside terrain....
Just seems such a difference....

Re: Question about servicing
Maybe or it could just be Nissan trying to get there dealers the most bang for there buck.
The Merc Vito I used to have had 20,000km services as do some other brands of vehicles here but then the Toyota Hilux runs 7500km service intervals so must be something to do with the dust etc as utes are generally used off road or around building sites, farms etc where there is more contamination.
In saying that though my 10,000km service is basically just a oil and filter change with a bit of a look over and clean the air filter drain any water in fuel filter etc then at 40,000km intervals it has the big one where they replace everything. All filters, oils
(engine, gearbox, transfer box, diff's etc), coolant, you name it.
I believe in Aussie they run 5000km services in remote areas because of dust and bad fuel.

Re: Question about servicing
Just recently had my Nav serviced by a local independent 'good garage scheme'......£240 all in (as per Nissan schedule)....i was well pleased.
Spoke with the guy and he is in favour of the yearly checks/service......even if it is just basic.
He reckons the next service (at 3 years) he will do for about £130......so all is good.....

Re: Question about servicing
Advantage of a 2 yearly check is that you can still service it every year or more yourself, and only pay a garage to do it every 2 years and when you sell it you can still say it has a full service history.
What does a service on a truck consist of. Oil change, filter ect?
